Kinja'd!!!

Sadly it was not spent in the mountains, but it was spent doing some projects on the Miata.

One of the realities of me and my Miata, is that it was never meant to fit a person like me. At 6'5" with a 37" inseam, I am on a constant quest to find more space in the car.

Before today I made three modifications to help me fit better.

Removing seat foam:

Then I got a wider gas pedal for easier heel-toe:

Finally I deleted the sun-visor:

Today I made some more modifications in furtherance of my quest for space.

First up was modifying the parking brake lever, so it protrudes far less into the driver's space.

Next was removing the bulky stock door handles and replacing them with straps:

I am very happy with the looks and results. I may go back and paint the washers black to match.

I also removed the baby teeth, and stopped by the gardening center to get some supplies for my bonsai project.

What did you all accomplish today?

What did you do to the parking brake handle? I haven't actually got around to looking for ideas, but I'm tired of it jamming into my thigh every time I drive.

Placing some washers helps point it away from the driver:

For the record, I did not find it necessary to remove the seat. I did loosen up the center console to allow myself to work the carpet that covers the e-brake mechanism back into place.

You can also use the handle from a guitar amplifier instead of a strap with washers for the door handle. They run $5 or so from places like Crutchfield or Parts Express and look almost factory. Your choice of black or chrome end caps.
